Managed day-to-day work of Key Clinic Network operations, including ensuring that trainings were planned, coordinated outreach and support visits, and monitored activities. Responsible for compliance with franchise goals and project objective as well.  Additionally, managed all aspects of the Training and Support Teams (TST), including motivating and directing the teams. Management included regular meetings to discuss problems encountered, best practices and sharing lessons learned in fieldwork.  Assisted TST in planning visits and setting targets, setting work objectives, performance improvement plans.  Planned for support visits and trainings as the network developed and field activities expanded.

As the Chief of Party for the Bloomberg Philanthropies funded INDIA-34 grant, Abhilash Philip was responsible for all project implementation. He co-authored the proposal and represented PSI during the contract negotiations with Technical Advisor and Contract Administrator of The Union. Recruited professionals from other health areas who expressed passion for tobacco to staff the project. Led PSI’s engagement with state level officials while mentoring State Coordinators for district level advocacy efforts resulting in state and district endorsed Smoke Free campaigns. Provided mentoring and capacity building for local NGOs which includes, for example, media advocacy. One significant accomplishment during this project is Mr. Philip’s innovation to socially market COTPA signs in the project districts. In a short span of 15 months, Jodhpur was declared as Smoke Free while PSI efforts contributed to declaration of Munger as the first Smoke Free district in Bihar.

Sustaining Health Outcomes through the Private Sector (SHOPS) Plus is USAID's flagship initiative in private sector health. Discharged the functions of the Chief of Party till the joining of the new incumbent in late Oct’2018. Facilitated 'Condom Alliance' based on collective impact and shared value principles. that paved the way for innovations informed by research based on Behavioral Economics. Conceptualised the ‘Market Validation and Testing’ RFP that led to generating 2X co-investment for ‘go to market’ of a new condom product. Facilitated dialogue between FP Division Government of India and condom marketers during COVID-19 lockdown and provided government with data points that ensured that no restrictions were put on condom exports from India. Organized and implemented high quality communication activities in Rajasthan.  Maintained and developed health providers for a clinic franchise and engaged with key stakeholder groups to create an environment supportive of program activities in the districts.  Other key duties included piloting promotional strategies to accelerate contraceptive adoption, planning and developing mass media communications and advocacy for family planning methods with state government.

Interpersonal Communication Co-coordinator

Provided support to the Chief Executive and Secretary in all issues as well as represented him in his absence.  This included coordination of the 2005 Indo-American Exchange program to promote child rights advocacy. This involved coordinating key Indian NGOs for a visit to the US as well as developed a program for visiting American NGO leaders.  Organized several seminars and workshops on such topics as NGO-Corporate partners and Microfinance.  Additional duties included business development and monitoring and evaluation.

Key accomplishment: Generated $13M of new business. Highlight was obtaining matching grant from another donor for expanding a grant on Gender Based Violence in India. Co-facilitated a Delta Marketing Plan development for a corporate funded program.

General Manager New Business Development

Responsible for developing new business and providing program management support for new projects. Worked closely with headquarters staff for knowledge management, learning and documentation.  This included significant experience working in tobacco control including designing PSI’s Quitline, tobacco cessation counselling project in Chennai, collaborating with the pharmaceutical sector to gain access to nicotine replacement therapy, providing strategic inputs to tuberculosis and tobacco control as health interventions, monitoring and evaluation of PSI’s Smoke Free Chennai project and extensive training in tobacco control and advocacy.  Additional responsibilities included being state in-charge for a Global Fund funded TB program, business development and included writing winning proposals for TB, HIV and diabetes projects.

Responsible for donor relations and creating a positive environment for smooth collaboration and increased funding opportunities. Manages all aspects of proposal development by working with field and headquarters staff on program design, proposal writing and cost proposal development. Liaises with other partner organizations involved in public health and identify areas of potential collaboration; take the lead in developing concept notes for potential collaborative projects. Also guided PSI/India’s external engagements, including advocacy. Abhilash was the focal point for managing PSI/India’s relationship with key stakeholders in government, the social sector, and the corporate sector.
