Technical development • Defined the functionality of the control electronics for company’s main product - Atomic Force Microscope for Nanotechnology applications. • Sourced components/sub-systems for the control electronics with emphasis on product cost reduction. • Located vendors of specialty image analysis software. Executed licensing of a dedicated software package into Pacific Scanning that was re-sold with company’s instruments. Business development • Identified partners for OEM sales of company’s products. 2 deals were executed resulting in $600K sales over 3 years. Managed contract manufacturing by Agilent Technologies during the R&D and pilot production of a novel X-band RF oscillator during 2 year, $1.5M project.
Coordinated internal (OEwaves, 3 Ph.D., 1 Engineer) and external (Agilent, 5 Engineers) R&D.
Successful pilot quantity manufacturing of a miniature RF oscillator incorporating a 9-element external cavity laser.
 Developed manufacturing processes and establish supply chain for high Q optical resonators.
 Located specialty vendors for high performance optical materials and machining techniques.
 Lead process development effort with Specialty Materials Division of Corning, Inc. during a 6-month Joint Development Agreement.

Principal Investigator on DARPA/DoD contracts.

Project Manager

Developed a combined micro-topography and chemical imager for in-situ analysis on planetary surfaces for astrobiology and geology applications under NASA PIDDP grant.  Demonstrated a lab prototype as a result of 18 month, $500K effort. Participated in a 3 month Mars Climate History mission study based on sub-surface exploration of Martian polar caps.  Analyzed performance requirements and technical specifications of the 7-instrument science suite and sample delivery system.  Conducted experiments on particle samples transport, separation and analysis using microfluidic technologies. Developed time-resolved fluorescence analysis technique with JPL's CMOS active pixel imagers for biomedical applications. Presented the technology to potential licensees.
