Lead Designer

The sole design touchpoint across all parts of the business, I liaise with sales, editorial, tech, marketing and social departments to ensure brand guidelines are set and met.

Editorial

Designing infographics and maps to support global news stories or features across both brands. These are either queued up for specific events (Chernobyl 30th anniversary) or reactive to breaking news (Brussels attacks). I prepare templates to aid the quick generation of social graphics. For example, a template to enable our social team to quickly whip up quotes from a story to share. I also edit and maintain all journalist headshots, whether full time or freelance staff. Lastly, I art direct video production, to ensure that the house style is consistent. 

In summer 2016, I hired a data journalist, who I mentor on HTML, CSS, JS and design.

Tech

The only front end developer in the business, I code all of my designs. Using HTML/5, CSS/3 and the Bootstrap and BEM frameworks, I ensure modular/scalable f

Slotting into the development team to mainly take care of the migration of the website from an older system into the Wordpress platform. 

The website serves over 800k+ page views per day and 500k+ unique visits per month.

I was hired as a maternity cover, ending in May 2014.

Junior Web Developer

Having excelled at the initial job as a Junior Front End Developer and driven the development of three responsive (the first responsive sites to be developed at the company) I was offered a year extension on the contract, carrying on in the position of Web Designer.

Web Designer

Slurp.co.uk was awarded the IWC Direct Merchant of the Year award - 11/09/2012.

An internship to develop a Facebook application from the ground up progressed into a full time position as 'information technologist'. The application was hand coded by myself. 

The first major task involved a self-driven brief to completely re-brand and re-design the whole website. The first day of official traffic after the launch was the biggest of 2011. 

Being a one-man UI team, I am responsible for idea generation, coding and design from day one to the end of all our front-facing projects. This also involves liaising with company directors and our head of marketing and planning to structure solid project briefs that deliver a quicker turnaround of customers from product pages to checkout.

Freelance Designer

Atlas is a digital agency, located in North Sydney, which specialises in full service digital design and development.

I was brought on for a short term contract to help with an overflow of design work, working with clients such as the-BeautyInsider.com.au, theSquiz.com.au, Drivers HQ, Swaay and MortgageChoice.com.au.

Designer

Jumping on the #locationcuration bandwagon, I initiated the project for London. This is a Twitter based project, that currently has no end date as the account is progressing at a rapid rate with considerable interest.

The project involves liaising with Londoners of all backgrounds to source the correct candidates to represent London in a public sphere.

I am also responsible for the branding of the account.

Creator and Manager

Local Measure develop an innovative local social media analytical platform, with the intention of bridging the gap between users and businesses. 

I was hired as a product designer to help the company take their platform to the next level by clearing out the backlog of product feature requests and developing innovative approaches for the social space.  

Not just a design position, as product designer I work  with as a front end developer as well, building my designs into the platform.
