Anything you try to build, create, or do, you try to find the validations, not for the world, but for yourself.
Anything you try to build, create, or do, you try to find the validations from outside. It does not matter how confident or extrovert you are. You will still need to find these validations, not for the world, but for yourself.
Now, these validations could be of any sort! A smile from someone you care about and value or a message from a stranger appreciating your work.
Building Peerlist was easier because of such validations!
Let me tell you a story! It was New Year’s Eve (31st December evening), Akash and I were getting a takeaway home from a restaurant and someone DMed us a bug in Peerlist. This was when Peerlist was not even 6 months old, it was in its early beta with hardly 500 users! That was the moment! If someone is finding time worth spending on Peerlist on New Year’s Eve, we are onto something!
Recently got a DM from someone! The person was looking for a job and found out about Peerlist! “I first posted on Peerlist that I am looking for a job! Got your comment about I should share my work instead. Honestly, I got frustrated but kept sharing the project I was working with. Took me 7 months, but finally received an offer from a startup I always wanted to work with! This is a feat!” Such stories make me think we are onto something!
But why is one single validation not enough?
Why do we need to keep reminding ourselves we are doing something good?
Because the surroundings will doubt you, making you doubt yourself! There will always be more people asking you questions than people believing in you! And that is good!
All of this, the doubts, the questions, the comments, the feedback, everything makes us sane and keeps us on the path we should always be on! Help us stay focused.
So next time, if you feel you are not good enough and you need more conviction to build, you know that’s a good feeling! That is what makes you understand your progress, that is what makes you grow and be the better version of yourself.
How do you navigate through that?
By experiencing more moments of conviction, by building confidence in yourself! So trust the whole process… everything is falling in its own place :)
