A productivity hack or a sham ?
Colors are everywhere, and they do effect you subsconsciously. For example , red and orange tint colored food really induce your hunger . At a lot of places color impact your mood and thought of anything as well.
So the last week I had started to experiment with grayscaling all my devices. And while any rational person would question why to remove all colors from already colorless life ? I tend to just do the same , and question the aftereffects later.
First 24 hours
So for the first 24 hours , I would say i found the most benefit of the same. The whole experience felt novel, and I found my eyes to be less strained especially with harsher whites that you see on the screen without the dark mode.
Day 2 - 5
I found myself to be more and more acclimating to the screens, and whilst i did find my focus getting here and there , which stays true, i would say that the amount of the regaining the focus back to my work was reduced atleast by 40%. I genuinely thought that it was a great power provided you are very busy and get easily distracted.
Day 6 - 7 :
So i wasn't faithful to the experiment completely here, due to some interviews and even meetings which i had to attend to , i kept on switching on and off the color extension, and I found that you eyes consciously prefers colors to stay a bit more distracted and involved in your screens.
TLDR:
Reduction in eye strains due to harsh colors.
Reduction in time of loss in focus.
Found the same amount of time that i was distracted though and I did open my phone a lot to scroll here and there.
Whether a sham or hack , i think you would have to experiment to find out , but I would say that adding this with a lot of other things such as blocking social media apps on phone and removing games, would really impact your screen time a lot !
