Junior : Bhaiyya ye core subjects jese OS, Networks etc. kitne important hai
Senior : Jyada important nahi, bas interview me puchhte hai, baki sab karne ke baad last me playlist dekh lena aur thode interview questions padh lena
This i believe is a very bad advice. These subjects give you the essence of what computer science actually is. Computer Science is not just about solving a hard leetcode problem, or just web or app development, its a lot more than that.
Say, when you read Operating Systems, you actually know how all process are carried out, how they are run in parallel, how resources are distributed to different processes. Don't you feel its really interesting to know how the programs which we have taken for granted are being executed at the hardware level by Assembly Language.
Because of taking these subjects casually, when we are working at an organization we don't even know how to connect to a different system using SSH, we don't even know to run basic terminal commands.
Its not necessary that we all need to become app/web developers only, a lot more than these roles are there. And we would be able to appreciate them only if try reading these subjects seriously, and not just binge watch the playlist before exams. Obviously the conventional roles pay you handsomely, and hence one would go for them, but at least we can explore. Who knows out of interest, one of us develop his/her own operating system.
Would love to know your opinions in comments.
