Day 5/21 - Design a Subscription Cancellation Flow by Barak Hazan

In this design, I focused on making the cancellation process transparent, user-friendly, and empathetic to the needs of Duolingo users. I wanted users to understand the value they’d be giving up by canceling, while also offering options to retain them as subscribers.

The first screen clearly displays the premium features they will lose if they proceed with cancellation. It includes a sad Duo icon, which adds an emotional touch to highlight the impact of the decision. This helps users recognize the benefits they’re giving up in a friendly, non-intrusive way.

On the second screen, I implemented a retention strategy with a targeted offer. When the user selects a reason for canceling (e.g., “The subscription is too expensive”), they are presented with a personalized message offering 30% off for the next three months. This tailored approach addresses their specific reason for leaving, providing a solution without adding unnecessary friction.

This design keeps the flow simple, avoids dark patterns, and makes cancellation a transparent choice, with the hope of retaining users in a way that feels supportive and respectful.
