Day 4/21 - Empty State (Mobile or Web) by Abhishek Paatni

My Thoughts

As far as I can see, this challenge is very very contextual and is not something that can have a general solution. After all, a user landing on a empty state screen can mean many things. Examples abovešŸ‘‡šŸ‘‡šŸ‘‡

  1. I am searching for a document in my storage but at the wrong place.

  2. I am a new user and looking how to take my first action.

  3. I am searching for an account on my social media but didn’t found it.

  4. I am looking for a location on maps but it does not exist.

In all these scenarios, the first action that we can nudge the user to take will be different. (Respective nudges for the examples abovešŸ‘‡šŸ‘‡šŸ‘‡)

  1. Nudge the user to search a folder above in the information architecture or in a different in folder on the same level.

  2. Nudge the user to click the CTA on the screen (eg:- ā€œNew Projectā€ or ā€œUploadā€ or ā€œSubmitā€)

  3. Nudge the user to recheck the account id or name of the person in question.

  4. Nudge the user to enter a location nearby the intentional location.

Context is, that is explaining the action we can nudge the user to take so, I am going to set a context and then come up with the best way for me to nudge the user to take the action.

Context: A user searching his/her cover letter in his/her mobile’s note app.

Nudge: ā€œTry searching with other words like ā€˜resume’ or ā€˜job assetsā€™ā€

Aim: To give a very direct yet useful nudge to the user, which can be done by any device by reading and understanding the search query user input before landing on an empty state screen using Ai model of the operating system or the app itself.

Key UX Features for the Users:

  1. Specified, short yet valuable nudge

The Nudge should helps user achieve the goal given the context user is on the empty state screen.
