I’m Marcus, one of the co-founders of Honest Care. HonestCare started with a simple question. Why is it so difficult to get the medication you need?

The surprising truth is that many Americans are denied coverage for drugs they’re completely qualified for. This is because insurance companies make mistakes.

According to a report by the US Government Accountability Office, between 39% and 59% of drug insurance denials were overturned following an appeal. If that's the case, then why don’t more people appeal? The answer is sadly predictable: it’s because insurance companies have made the appeal process very complicated.

Doctors are not well incentivized to write appeals - it's a very time consuming task which can be difficult to invoice for. The clinicians we've spoken to have all said they'd rather be treating their patients instead of digging through insurance paperwork. Additionally, many people don't have a strong relationship with their primary care provider, or they might not even have a regular doctor at all. The consequence is that many patients are unable to overturn their drug coverage denials.
