How AI Changed the Way I Search for Information

I’ve stopped using Google.

That shift didn’t happen overnight, but it’s now complete. I’ve replaced traditional search with AI-powered tools—especially Perplexity—and the difference is dramatic. For me, it’s not just about saving time. It’s about how I approach questions, process information, and find solutions. The way I “search” has fundamentally changed.

I Don’t Browse Anymore—Now I Ask

With Google, I used to type in a query, scan through a wall of blue links, open multiple tabs, skim, compare, filter out noise, and then maybe piece together what I needed. It worked, but it was clunky. Time-consuming. Often annoying.

Now, I ask one question—clearly—and I get a clean, concise, useful answer. Whether I’m looking into technical concepts, productivity methods, trends, or just trying to understand something complex, Perplexity or ChatGPT gives me exactly what I need in one go.

It feels like having a smart researcher working for me in the background.

Perplexity Changed Everything

Out of all the AI tools I’ve tried, Perplexity has become my go-to—especially for more complex, layered topics. It doesn’t just answer my questions; it anticipates what I really need. I can ask something technical, broad, or niche, and it gives me a synthesis that’s not only informative but sourced. That matters to me.

What used to take 20–30 minutes of jumping between articles, PDFs, and forums now takes 2 minutes. I ask. It answers. And if I want to dig deeper, the sources are right there. No more fluff-filled listicles or SEO traps—just actual substance.

Follow-Up Is Frictionless

Another big change: I don’t think in isolated questions anymore. I build conversations.

When I’m exploring something new—say, understanding how LLMs are fine-tuned or how a startup successfully pivots—I don’t stop at one search. I follow up. I ask “Why does that matter?” or “What’s the downside?” or “Show me real-world examples.” And because tools like ChatGPT remember context, the flow feels natural.

It’s like brainstorming with a knowledgeable assistant who doesn’t get tired or impatient.

It’s Not Just Faster—It’s Smarter

Speed is great, but what really matters to me is the quality of answers. AI platforms are starting to outperform traditional search engines not just in speed, but in relevance and clarity. I’m getting better insights, fewer distractions, and way less noise.

Before, I had to judge every source myself—Was this article written by a human? Was it trying to sell me something? Is this data up-to-date? Now, I’m getting summaries pulled from reputable sources, with citations built-in. I still verify when I need to, but the first answer is usually solid.

No Looking Back

Switching away from Google was never a goal in itself—it just became the obvious choice. AI-based tools give me better answers, faster, and in a format that fits how I think and work. Perplexity has become my research wingman. ChatGPT is my idea bouncer. Bing is occasionally useful when I want something current but still conversational.

I don’t miss the tab overload. I don’t miss the endless scanning. I don’t miss the guessing game of which link might actually help me.

I search differently now—not just faster, but smarter.
