About Kaleidoscope

A new era of scientific and biomedical discovery is upon us, powered by incredible advances including molecular and synthetic biology, high-throughput instrumentation, and applications of novel computational methods. And yet, the software ecosystem for scientists is sorely overlooked, resulting in serious hindrance to the speed and quality of scientific translation from bench to bedside. At Kaleidoscope, we are building a control center for science — connective tissue that brings together all of the core elements necessary to power an R&D engine, ensuring that scientific work is captured reliably and reproducibly.

Kaleidoscope’s products are being used by some of the world's most innovative teams every day. We bring together experimental and computational workflows, and allows teams to collaboratively plan, manage, and track their processes and data. Our initial customers are biotech and pharma companies, and we will become the collaborative software underpinning R&D across all industries to accelerate scientific research.

The role

Kaleidoscope acts as a shared single integration point for teams, so beyond offering a reliable service, we need to meet the needs of many different roles in modern research teams, from bench scientists to data analysts to project managers.

As an early member of the engineering team, you will have an important voice on system architecture and team process. You will also be a valued member of the product team, as your creativity in solving solutions for our customers will bring to life new ideas.

To give you an idea of technical problems you may be working on, here are four projects we are currently developing:

  • Scaling our platform to support hundreds of millions of scientific data points, ensuring robust performance and reliability.

  • Building out high-performance automated integrations to seamlessly ingest data from the most popular scientific tools used in the industry.

  • Implementing granular access control mechanisms, enabling users to confidently share specific scientific data with coworkers, contractors, and investors without risking the exposure of unrelated information.

  • Creating a beautiful and intuitive data explorer that empowers scientists to zero in on candidate therapeutic molecules among tens of thousands of options.

We are a small team, and we are looking for a senior software engineer who is excited to be a leader in the company as we grow.

Our investors

We are backed by some of the top funds and minds in the software meets bio space. Our $6M seed round was co-led by Hummingbird and Dimension. Between them, the partners at these firms have backed revolutionary companies like Enveda Bio , Recursion Pharma, Dyno Tx, Gandeeva Tx, LabGenius, RunwayML, Hugging Face, Primer, Rigetti, BillionToOne, among numerous others.

Our other investors include industry leaders Chris Gibson (Co-Founder and CEO at Recursion), Brian Naughton (Co-founder and CTO at Hexagon Bio, Founding Scientist at 23&Me), Alec Nielsen (Founder & CEO at Asimov), Brandon White (Head of Product at Spring Discovery, employee #3 at Freenome), Paul Sekhri, Caffeinated Capital, and others who deeply believe in us and what we are building.

Team values

We believe that great products come from great teams, so we think it’s worth talking about what we value in our team. If the following sounds like the kind of place you’d like to work, we’d love to hear from you!

  • Healthy communication — We’ve been doing regular 1:1s from the very start because we think it’s important to check in on each other outside of the day to day. We value psychological safety and we want to ensure everyone is comfortable voicing their thoughts, including doubts and disagreement.

  • Questions are always welcome — Startups are hard, they are filled with ambiguity; it’s asking questions, sometimes the same ones over and over, that can lead to the most important insights. We strive to leave our ego at the door and listen to each other, so we can teach and learn together.

  • Be kind — We wake up every day excited to work together, and at the heart of that is an understanding that we care about one another and are there to support each other through good and bad.

  • The team over the individual — That means having a team that collaborates and supports each other, and people who will step up to plug a gap when someone else is struggling.

  • Focused — We have an incredible team with a proven track record of building amazing product, but focus is what makes all the difference. It’s about saying no to hundreds of ideas to make room for the right yes.
