Overview

We're looking for an Intern Researcher to join us on the GitHub Customer Research team! The Customer Research team at GitHub is a core part of the Design organization and works closely with designers, PMs, and data teams. Our job is to help GitHub build the tools and experiences that support the future of software development. As researchers, we love exploring how people behave and learning what motivates them. When we understand customers’ mental models, their team’s workflows, and their organization’s constraints, we can build amazing products that our customers value and love. 

This is a remote summer internship for 12 consecutive weeks with start dates between May- June 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Support the creation of plans for research studies and/or programs for a feature with guidance. Follows established procedures to define and scope standard problems for an end-to-end (study design, sample selection, test creation, recruiting, moderation, analysis, reporting) research plan for business needs for a product. Supports the team on research and other data sources that has already been done in order to inform the plan.

  • Collaborates with others for cross-disciplinary research efforts for product outcomes. Supports and assists basic knowledge with other disciplines on how to apply user research. Participates in collaborative activities (e.g., journey mapping exercises, brainstorming/ideation workshops) with cross-disciplinary teams. Provides support to review product maker customer engagement plans and assisting w/ recommendations to improve product team learning and customer good will.

  • Contributes to the formation of the solution for a feature. Supports business needs while assisting w/ business cases for the research to project managers/leaders.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Pursuing Bachelor’s degree in Human- Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communications, Information Science, Information Architecture, User Experience Design, Behavioral Science, Social Sciences, Psychology or a related field, with at least one term remaining post-internship. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Creates and drives plans for research studies

  • Present research findings with a compelling presentation and communication style.

  • Experience with developer tools or technical products

  • You’ve worked alongside others writing and reviewing code - as a full-time developer, open source contributor, or regular hackathon participant

Compensation Range

The base salary range for this job is USD $20.77 - USD $70.96 /Hr.

These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual's base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role.
