Omix – Adaptive Focus Music That Works With You
I was listening to music while working (certain kinds of instrumental tracks help me focus better) and the thought struck me that it would be cool if when I got into the zone the music did too.
That idea led to Omix. I dove into research on adaptive audio in video games (think boss battle vs overworld) and studies on how subtle sound changes can improve focus. Then I built a prototype that connects your work signals to your soundtrack.
Omix is a macOS app that plays music designed for deep focus. It listens to your productivity signals, things like typing, clicking, and app usage, and uses those to shape your music in real time. It feels like a composer is scoring your workday, and it’s genuinely cool when the music notices you’re in flow.
🎧 Why Omix?
I wanted something that worked with me. Most “focus music” apps just loop a playlist. Omix adapts. It makes you feel seen, like the music knows when to lean in, and when to pull back.
⚙️ How It Works
Monitors local signals like typing, clicks, and window activity to understand when you’re focused
Calculates a real-time productivity score based on your current work rhythm
Smoothly adjusts music dynamics, intensity, and layers to match your state
Designed to be lightweight, private, and distraction-free
🧠 Who it's For
People who use music to get into deep work
Folks who juggle focus and distractions (ADHD-friendly by design)
Builders, writers, designers, and anyone working on something that takes brainpower
Anyone who wants their tools to stay out of the way and support their flow
Omix runs quietly in your Mac’s menu bar and blends into your workflow. No playlists, no decisions, just music that works when you do.
