As a JavaScript developer, people often expect my portfolio to showcase the latest frameworks and flashy interactivity. But when it came time to build my own site, I took a different path. I chose to use only vanilla HTML and CSS ; no JavaScript at all.
Why? Because I believe in something deeper than code: user freedom. Inspired by the Free Software Foundation’s Free JavaScript movement, I wanted my site to be fully accessible without requiring any proprietary scripts or hidden dependencies. I wanted it to just work, for everyone.
It’s a reminder that good design doesn’t need to rely on complexity, and that we as developers have the power to shape a freer, more open web.
